Shihpoo Breed Overview

Want to bring home an adorable Shihpoo puppy for sale? You’ve come to the right place. At Keystone Puppies, our mission is to help Shihpoo puppies find their forever homes. In addition to Shihpoos, we work with a range of other breeds — including Mini Poodles, Shih Tzus, Toy Poodles, and more! All our puppies are bred with the highest standards of ethical integrity — free of common genetic defects that impact less responsible breeders — and are raised in happy homes where they’re treated like part of the family before becoming part of yours!

The Shihpoo, often affectionately referred to as a “Shoodle,” is a hybrid breed that has gained popularity in recent years. Shihpoos are created by crossing Shih Tzus and Toy or Miniature Poodles and is known for its friendly, outgoing nature and unique appearance. Both parents of a Shihpoo give this hybrid valuable traits, such as the Shih Tzu’s desire for companionship and lap time combined with the Poodles intelligence and low-shedding coat.

As they have only recently become popular pets, there is no detailed history behind the origin of this breed; however, some experts believe they first appeared in North America sometime in the 2000s. Since then, their hearty charms have captured many hearts and it’s not hard to see why.

Shihpoo Puppy Health Considerations

Though generally very happy and long-lived — with an average lifespan of around 13-16 years — our Shihpoos for sale are not without their unique health concerns. Like every breed of dog, there are a few conditions you should be aware of before you consider purchasing one of our Shihpoo puppies for sale. Understanding the risks allows you to know the signs and prevent small health concerns from turning into big ones.

Shihpoo puppies are at a somewhat elevated risk for developing the following conditions:

  • Cardiac Issues
  • Luxating Patellas
  • Eye Diseases

Common health problems for Shihpoos include congenital cardiac conditions, luxating patellas (dislocation of the knee joint), and eye diseases such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy.

With some basic knowledge of the breed’s health concerns, you can be sure to give your Shihpoo the best possible chance at a long and healthy life. Finding a Shihpoo puppy for sale from a reputable breeder can also dramatically — although, not eliminate — the risk of your dog developing some of these conditions. At Keystone Puppies, we work exclusively with experienced breeders who are committed to producing healthy & happy pups. Shihpoo Puppies Coat & Coat Care

Taking care of a Shihpoo’s coat is an essential part of keeping them healthy and looking their best. A low-shedding coat may not require any trimming or grooming, but your Shihpoo still needs to be brushed regularly to keep its coat from matting and knotting.

Special attention should be given around the eyes, ears, and feet to ensure that stray hairs don’t irritate these sensitive areas. Additionally, if your pup is heading out into inclement weather or participating in activities in muddy areas, consider investing in a waterproof coat and boots! This will not only protect that beautiful coat but also help keep them warm in cold temperatures. Not bad for such a small pup!
