Shorkie Breed Overview

Want to bring home an adorable Shorkie puppy for sale? You’ve come to the right place. At Keystone Puppies, our mission is to help Shorkie puppies find their forever homes. In addition to Shorkies, we work with a range of other breeds — including Shichons, Shih Tzus, Shihpoos, and more! All our puppies are bred with the highest standards of ethical integrity — free of common genetic defects that impact less responsible breeders — and are raised in happy homes where they’re treated like part of the family before becoming part of yours!

The Shorkie is a small dog breed that is a cross between a Shih Tzu and a Yorkshire Terrier. Also known as the Yorkie Tzu or the Shih Tzu Yorkie mix, the Shorkie is a relatively new designer breed that was created in the United States in the 1990s.

These dogs are known for their friendly and affectionate personalities. They are loyal and devoted to their owners and enjoy spending time with their human family members. Shorkies are also known for being playful and energetic, and they love to play and run around. Despite their small size, Shorkies can be good watchdogs and may bark to alert their owners to strangers or potential threats. However, they are generally not aggressive and are known for being good with children and other pets. Like all dogs, Shorkies require proper training and socialization to prevent behavioral issues. They may be prone to separation anxiety and can become destructive if left alone for long periods of time.

Overall, the Shorkie is a small and friendly dog breed that can make a great companion for individuals and families looking for a loyal and affectionate pet.

Shorkie Puppy Coat & Coat Care

The Shorkie has a long, silky coat that is typically fine and straight, with a slight wave. Their coat can come in a variety of colors, including black, brown, white, and gray, and may have a mix of these colors.

It’s important to groom your Shorkie’s coat regularly to keep it in good condition. Daily brushing is recommended to prevent tangles and mats from forming, as well as to remove dirt and debris. A metal comb and slicker brush can be used to gently remove any knots or tangles.

You may need to have your Shorkie’s coat trimmed periodically to keep it at a manageable length. This can be done by a professional groomer or you can do it yourself with the proper tools and techniques. Make sure you don’t cut the coat too short, as this can cause skin irritation and leave the dog vulnerable to sunburn.

Bathing should be done as needed, but not too frequently as it can strip the coat of its natural oils. Use a gentle shampoo specifically designed for dogs and rinse thoroughly to avoid any residue. Be sure to dry the dog thoroughly after bathing, as their long coat can take a long time to air dry.

In addition to regular grooming, it’s important to keep the Shorkie’s ears clean and dry to prevent infections. Use a cotton ball or soft cloth to wipe the ears clean, and avoid using cotton swabs, as they can push dirt and wax deeper into the ear canal.
