The Cairn Terrier originated in Scotland as a ratting dog in the 1500’s. They were used to hunt foxes, rats & others. The Cairns ancestry can be linked with the West Highland Terrier, Skye Terrier & Scottish Terriers. The Cairn Terrier was first registered with the AKC in 1913 and grouped as Terrier.

Although this breed can be snippy they are still great family dogs.

Coat & Coat Care
The Cairn Terriers outer coat is straight, rough and wiry. Their under coat is very fine and soft.
Brushing 3 – 5 times weekly will help prevent matting on the finer under coat. Minimal bathing is needed to avoid irritation of the ears & eyes. Continue to trim their hairs in those areas.
