Bullmastiff Overview Looking for Bullmastiff puppies for sale? This is a large working breed that originated in Britain in the mid 1800’s. They were bred for strength, size and speed by crossing the aggressive Bulldog along with the large, less aggressive Mastiff. In 1934, the AKC recognized the Bullmastiff. The standard has undergone several revisions since then; the most current version is available on the AKC website.
  • Country of Origin: Britain
  • Weight: 100 - 130 lbs
  • Height: 24 - 27 inces
  • Color: The Bullmastiff coat colors are brindle, fawn or red.

Bullmastiff Temperament

The breed is loyal, devoted, loving and protective. The strong-willed Bullmastiff is not afraid of anything and would lay down his life for his family. Mild-mannered and sweet unless provoked.

Bullmastiff Health Considerations

If you’re considering purchasing an English Mastiff puppy, make sure you understand this breed’s special health considerations. Like many large, lovable dogs, these pups produce a lot of gas and drool. The average life span is 8-10 years.

Some health issues to watch for in this breed are:

  •    Cancer
  •    Hip Dysplasia
  •    Elbow Dysplasia
  •    Bloat

Bullmastiff Coat

This breed has a short, easy to care for coat.

Brush your bull mastiff weekly with a slicker brush or bristle brush. The bull mastiff’s short coat is dense and weather-resistant, and it doesn’t shed much.
