Mal-Shi Breed Overview

Want to bring home an adorable Mal-Shi puppy for sale? You’ve come to the right place. At Keystone Puppies, our mission is to help Malshi puppies find their forever homes. In addition to Mal-Shis, we work with a range of other breeds — including Malteses, Maltichons, Shih Tzus, and more! All our puppies are bred with the highest standards of ethical integrity — free of common genetic defects that impact less responsible breeders — and are raised in happy homes where they’re treated like part of the family before becoming part of yours!

The Mal-Shi is a delightful hybrid breed of dog, resulting from the pairing of a Maltese and Shih Tzu. They first appeared in the United States in the mid-1990s and have become increasingly popular ever since.

Beloved for their gentle, easygoing nature and low-allergen coat, Mal-Shis make excellent companions for those with chronic allergies or other sensitivities.

Although they inherited their intelligence from both parents, they are often mischievously playful which keeps them endlessly entertaining. Their loyal demeanor and affectionate character quickly endear them to those around them; even complete strangers can’t help but be taken by their charm!

If you’re looking for an ideal pet that is friendly, gentle, and loving – a Mal-Shi may just be the perfect pup for you!

Mal-Shi Puppies Temperament

Mal-Shis tend to have sunny dispositions and are typically very even tempered, making them a pleasure to be around. They love spending time with their people and get along well with visitors, children and other pets.

They often show a determination to please their owners, making them wonderful companions. Mal-Shis are not particularly vocal, but they can express joy or discontent through the occasional bark or whine. As such, it’s important for owners to pay attention to their pet’s cues and develop a strong bond for the best possible relationship.

Overall though, these dogs usually have cheerful temperaments that make them incredibly enjoyable companion animals!

Mal-Shi Puppy Health Considerations

Though generally very happy and long-lived — with an average lifespan of around 13-16 years — our Mal-Shis for sale are not without their unique health concerns. Like every breed of dog, there are a few conditions you should be aware of before you consider purchasing one of our Mal-Shi puppies for sale. Understanding the risks allows you to know the signs and prevent small health concerns from turning into big ones.

Mal-Shi puppies are at a somewhat elevated risk for developing the following conditions:

  • Eye Issues
  • Respiratory Tract Infections
  • Bladder Issues
  • Joint Issues

Mal-Shis typically inherit various characteristics from their Maltese and Shih Tzu parents, so potential owners should be aware of potential eye issues, respiratory tract infections, difficulty holding bladder, and joint pain from hip dysplasia.

With some basic knowledge of the breed’s health concerns, you can be sure to give your Mal-Shi the best possible chance at a long and healthy life. Finding a Mal-Shi puppy for sale from a reputable breeder can also dramatically — although, not eliminate — the risk of your dog developing some of these conditions. At Keystone Puppies, we work exclusively with experienced breeders who are committed to producing healthy & happy pups. Mal-Shi Puppies Coat & Coat Care

The Mal-Shi’s fluffy coat need regular maintenance to ensure it stays healthy and looking its best. To begin, keep them regularly groomed by brushing several times a week with a slicker brush or pin brush in downward strokes, especially during shedding season. Brushing will not only preserve the beauty of their coat but strengthen your bond as you work through tangles together!

Nail trimming should be done whenever nails start curling and get close to the ground.

Lastly, regular baths can help with the appearance of their coat and should be done at least every six weeks using a mild shampoo designed specifically for dogs.
