Overview

Looking for a Cavachon puppy for sale? This designer breed combines the Bichon Frise with the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. First bred in the United States in 1996, these cuddly pups have become popular companion dogs all over the world.

Their regal bearing and affectionate manner have made them an appealing lap dog. These dogs are also loyal, intelligent, and eager to please. They are gentle, tolerant, and accepting, which makes them an excellent choice for households with other pets. They also do well with children and are not usually bothered by strangers.

The Cavachon is recognized by the ACHC (American Canine Hybrid Club). This designer breed can also be registered through IDCR (International Designer Canine Registry) and ICA (International Canine Association, Inc.).

Temperament

If you want to buy a Cavachon puppy, it’s smart to do a little research first. This is a breed that was developed from two lap dog breeds, so they definitely have all the traits of a good cuddler. They are extremely affectionate and need lots of attention to stay calm and centered. These pups like all kinds of people. They are loving dogs who are loyal to families, but they are  easygoing, accepting, and even friendly with complete strangers.

The Cavachon is a playful breed. While they don’t need lots of vigorous outdoor exercise every day, a short daily walk will keep them happy. They enjoy games and interaction and long for attention. Snuggling, gentle wrestling, tug-of-war, and fetch are favorite pastimes. They are a willing and tolerant playmate for children and will follow family members around for hours. They also enjoy the company of other dogs and pets.

Health

If you’re considering adopting a Cavachon puppy, make sure you understand this breed’s health considerations. The average lifespan of this breed is 11-15 years, although longer lifespans are common. Blocked tear ducts are common, so watch for issues and make sure to gently wipe your pup’s eyes each day with a clean, damp cloth.

Because this is a relatively new breed, the data on health issues is insufficient. However, some health concerns to watch for are:

  • Hip Dysplasia
  • Ear & Eye Infections
  • Seizures
  • Mitral Valve Disease (MVD)

Keep your pup at a healthy weight and make sure to provide moderate outdoor exercise. With all dogs, keep current on shots and vaccinations. Schedule regular checkups with your vet.

Coat & Coat Care

The coat is usually soft and curly and stands away from their body.

Because these dogs can shed a little, brush every day. They need regular grooming every 4-6 weeks, and coats are often trimmed short. Tear stains can be an issue, so wipe eyes daily with a clean, damp cloth. Check with your vet to see if your Cavachon should have their tear ducts flushed periodically.
