Yorkiechon Temperament
If you want to buy a Yorkiechon puppy, it’s smart to do a little research first. The Yorkiechon is vivacious, loving, and gentle with its family. These snuggly pups like indoor time, but a short daily walk helps them expend energy and keeps them calm and centered. They also need companionship, so don’t leave them alone for long periods. Bored or lonely Yorkiechons can chew and become destructive.
They can sometimes be relentless watchdogs. They are enthusiastic barkers and use that bark to warn off any unknown dogs or people. If you want to discourage this behavior, early socialization and patient, consistent training is required.
Yorkiechons love kids but are small and easily harmed. They may not be the right choice for homes with small children.
Yorkiechon Health Considerations
If you’re considering purchasing a Yorkiechon puppy, make sure you understand this breed’s special health considerations. The average lifespan is 10-12 years. Many mixed breed dogs have a better chance of having fewer health concerns because of their genetic diversity, and this pup is a relatively healthy cross. Health concerns to watch for are:
- Ear and Eye Infections
- Teeth Problems
- Luxating Patella
- Cancer
Yorkiechons can be tough little dogs and may not show pain openly like other breeds. Limps, gingerly walking, or excessive licking at one spot may be a sign of a fracture or even a break, so take such signals seriously. With all dogs, schedule regular checkups with your vet, and stay up to date on vaccinations and shots.
Yorkiechon Coat
Their coat is fine, usually curly & mostly hypoallergenic. They may shed very little.
Though this is a hypoallergenic breed, they are light shedders. Brush 2-3 times a week to control shedding and to prevent matting and tangles. Some owners like to trim these pups for easier maintenance, but even trimmed Yorkiechons should be brushed regularly.
Bathe when necessary.
