Dorkie Breed Overview The Dorkie is a designer breed created through the cross of the Mini Dachshund and the Yorkie breed. The Dorkie is recognized by the ACHC (American Canine Hybrid Club). This designer breed can also be registered through IDCR (International Designer Canine Registry) and ICA (International Canine Association, Inc).

  • Color: Dorkies have a wide variety of colors and patterns. They can be single-colored, single-colored with spots (‚Äúdappled‚Äù- called ‚Äúmerle‚Äù in other dog breeds), and single-colored with tan points plus any pattern. Dachshunds also come in piebald. The dominant color is red, the most common along with black and tan.

Dorkie Breed Temperament

This breed is intelligent, active, confident and playful. They love to chase balls in the yard and make loyal companions to their owners. This breed can be a bit wary of strangers and young children.

Dorkie Breed Health Considerations

The average life span is between 13 – 15 years. Two of the most common health issues are dental issues & patellar luxation. Some other health concerns are:

  • Allergies

Dorkie Breed Coat

The Dorkie coat is either smooth & short or long & silky.

The breed is an average shedder and requires daily brushing to avoid getting tangles and mats. The short haired Dorkie will require brushing 2-3 times monthly with a hard brittle brush.
