Want to bring home an adorable Border Collie puppy for sale? You’ve come to the right place. At Keystone Puppies, our mission is to help Border Collie puppies find their forever homes. In addition to Border Collies, we work with a range of other breeds — including Australian Shepherds, Boradors, Bordoodles, and more! All our puppies are bred with the highest standards of ethical integrity — free of common genetic defects that impact less responsible breeders — and are raised in happy homes where they’re treated like part of the family before becoming part of yours!
The Border Collie is a breed of sheepdog that hails from the Scottish Borders region. For centuries, these dogs have been prized for their herding abilities, and they continue to be popular working dogs today. This breed is known for its intense gaze, which is thought to be one of the reasons they are so successful at herding. When a Border Collie fixates on its target, it creates an illusion of movement that can cause the animal to move in the desired direction. These dogs are also highly intelligent and eager to please, making them easy to train.
Today, Border Collies are still used as herding dogs on many farms, but they have also become popular companion animals. Thanks to their even temperaments and love of companionship, these dogs make great additions to any family.
- Country of Origin: Great Britain
- Weight: 28 - 45 lbs
- Height: 18 - 22 inches
- Color: The most common colors of Border Collies are black & white and red & white. Other colors include sable & white, yellow & white, blue merle, sable, red merle and tri-color. While a black and white bi-color is the most common color, the breed standards for their coat colors are unusually broad. According to the AKC, “All colors are to be judged equally with no one color or pattern preferred over another. White markings may be clear white or ticked to any degree. Random white patches on the body are permissible but should not predominate.”
Border Collie Puppies Temperament
The Border Collie is a versatile and intelligent dog breed that is well-suited for a variety of roles. These pups are highly trainable and excel at tasks such as herding, agility, and obedience. They are also very loving and affectionate with their families, and they make excellent companion animals.
However, Border Collies can also be quite high-energy, and they require plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy. If you’re looking for a dog that can keep up with your active lifestyle, the Border Collie is an excellent choice. Just be sure to give them the attention and training they need to reach their full potential.
Border Collie Puppy Health Considerations
Though generally very happy and long-lived — with an average lifespan of around 10-14 years — our Border Collies for sale are not without their unique health concerns. Like every breed of dog, there are a few conditions you should be aware of before you consider purchasing one of our Border Collie puppies for sale. Understanding the risks allows you to know the signs and prevent small health concerns from turning into big ones.
Border Collie puppies are at a somewhat elevated risk for developing the following conditions:
- Hip Dysplasia
- Epilepsy
- Cancer
One common health concern for Border Collies is canine hip dysplasia, a condition that causes the hip joint to develop abnormally. This can lead to pain and arthritis later in life. Another concern for Border Collies is epilepsy, which can cause seizures. Border Collies may also be susceptible to developing cancer, particularly lymphoma. Fortunately, there are treatments available for all of these conditions, and many Border Collies live long and healthy lives with proper care.
With some basic knowledge of the breed’s health concerns, you can be sure to give your Border Collie the best possible chance at a long and healthy life. Finding a Border Collie puppy for sale from a reputable breeder can also dramatically — although, not eliminate — the risk of your dog developing some of these conditions. At Keystone Puppies, we work exclusively with experienced breeders who are committed to producing healthy & happy pups. Border Collie Puppy Coat & Coat Care
The Border Collie is a medium-sized, athletic dog breed with a thick coat of fur that comes in a variety of colors and patterns. The most common coat colors are black and white, but Border Collies can also be brindle, blue, merle, or tri-colored. Despite their thick coats, Border Collies are not heavy shedders and only require moderate grooming. However, the coat does need to be brushed regularly to prevent mats and tangles.
