Neapolitan Mastiff Overview The Neapolitan Mastiff breed was thought to have been brought to Rome by Alexander the Great. They were bred for fighting and defending. They were also great guard dogs. This breed was only brought to the USA in the 1970’s and they were recognized by the AKC in 2001 and grouped as Working.
