The French Bulldog is believed to have originated in England where the people were trying to make smaller Bulldogs. When the craftsmen moved to France, they took their dogs with them and this is where the dogs were finally named - French Bulldog. This breed was recognized by the AKC in 1898 and grouped as Non-Sporting.
