The Doberman Pinscher is very energetic, alert and fearless which makes them fantastic watch & guard dogs. This breed is very loyal and protective of their family. This breed has a bad reputation of lashing out, however the Doberman usually will only attack when they feel they or their family is being attacked.
The Doberman Pinscher coat is short, dense and close to the body.
The most recognizable Doberman color is the black w/ rust marking on their legs, chest & head. Other colors can be blue, fawn & red.
The Doberman requires minimal grooming. Brushing twice a week will help remove any dead hair & help maintain their shiny coat. More frequent brushing will be required during seasonal changes.
The Doberman Pinscher life expectancy is between 8 - 12 years. Some health concerns to look for are:
• Wobblers Syndrome (Disease of the Spinal Column on the Neck)
• Heart Disease
• Hip Dysplasia
The Doberman originated in Germany sometime in the early 1800’s. It is believed to be created through the following breeds – Pinschers, Greyhounds, Eng Greyhounds, German Shepherds & Rottweilers. It is also believed this breed was first used to help protect tax collectors that had to travel in dangerous areas.
The Doberman Pinscher was first registered by the AKC in 1908 and was grouped as Working.
