Shorkie: Additional Info
The Shorkie is attentive, active and gentle. Shorkies enjoy playing with children and other dogs. This cheerful designer is easily excitable and is eager to please its owner. Shorkies love to be held and make the perfect family lap dog.
Their coat is usually medium to long in length, silky and easy flowing. They shed very little and are considered to be hypoallergenic.
The most common color in the Shorkie is a brown coat with black highlights and sometimes white on the chin or chest. Other colors are black, black & white, blue & tan, parti color and others.
Daily grooming will maintain a healthy coat and prevent knotting of their hair. Clipping every 6 – 8 weeks is recommended. Bathe when necessary.
It is important to have their teeth checked on regularly. Dental disease can be common with this small breed. Other health concerns to watch for are:
• Intervertebral Disk Disease (IVDD)
• Ear Infections
All mixed breed dogs have a better chance of having less health concerns because of their genetic diversity.
The Shorkie is a designer breed created through the cross of the Shih Tzu and the Yorkshire Terrier breed. The Shorkie is recognized by the ACHC (American Canine Hybrid Club) and can be registered through IDCR (International Designer Canine Registry) and ICA (International Canine Association, Inc).
